AAJA: Driving Diversity

The Michigan Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association is revved up to host the group's first national convention in Detroit in 2011. Take a ride with us and see what's here ...

Letter from NaFFAA

July 7, 2008
.
Dear Board:
.
The National Federation of Filipino American Associations supports the Michigan Chapter’s effort to bring the AAJA national convention to Detroit in 2011, and is eager to see the convention come here. Detroit is an exciting city, with a sizable -- and organized -- Asian American population.
.
Last month, the community raised more than $700,000 to send to earthquake victims in China. And every year, the Council of Asian Pacific Americans holds a spectacular dance performance for all of southeast Michigan.
.
The Michigan Chapter has been extremely helpful in trying to accurately portray Asian Americans, and in helping to have our voices heard.
.
We were surprised to hear that this would be AAJA’s first national convention in Detroit. We know you will enjoy your time here and will do what we can to make it a great convention.
.
NaFFAA is recognized by Washington policy-makers, private industry and national advocacy groups as the Voice of Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the United States. It is a non-partisan, non-profit national affiliation of more than five hundred Filipino-American institutions and umbrella organizations. Its twelve regions cover the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and the Marianas.
.
Sincerely,
.
